Family nature discovery
Nature’s Explorers is a family and community nature-discovery game built around the free iNaturalist app. Participants explore the places around them, photograph plants, animals, birds, insects and other living things, and upload genuine observations to the official project. Each observation helps people learn more about the biodiversity in their area while contributing to a growing record of the natural world.
The game is not a photography competition. Photo quality, camera type, age or technical skill are not judged. A child using a phone and an experienced photographer have the same opportunity to take part. Points, badges and recognition are based on genuine discoveries, verified observations, learning and responsible participation.
Families are at the heart of the project. Parents and guardians can explore with children, help them use iNaturalist safely and turn a walk, holiday or visit to a nature area into a shared discovery adventure. The project encourages families to spend time outdoors together, notice the wildlife around them, learn its names and stories, and protect the places they visit. It begins in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park corridor, with further regional projects planned as the game grows.
